Prof. Godwin Kowero

Prof. Godwin Kowero, the Executive Secretary of the African Forest Forum, is a Tanzanian professor of forest economics and policy analysis. He holds a Ph.D. with specialization in these areas, and also an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor Honoris Causa) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. He is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences and also of the Tanzania Academy of Sciences.


He has considerable experience in teaching in several universities in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique; and also in international research in forestry, mainly with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) where he was the Regional Coordinator for the CIFOR Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa. He has over 70 peer reviewed publications, including chapters in books, and books.


He guided the establishment of the African Forest Forum (AFF) in 2007, and has since been its Executive Secretary. The African Forest Forum is a pan-African forestry institution based in Nairobi, Kenya. AFF seeks to contribute to the improvement of the livelihoods of the people of Africa and the environment they live in through sustainable management and use of tree and forest resources on the African continent.
