As part of our commitment to responsible forest management, Komatiland Forests SOC Ltd, a subsidiary of SAFCOL, voluntarily subscribes to the principles and criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) (FSC – C013832 – Forest Management and FSC – C007806 – Chain of Custody), against which we are audited annually by an accredited certification body, which evaluates, monitors and certifies companies to FSC standards. Only continued compliance can assure that certificate holders can keep their certificates. The FSC is an international non-profit organisation, established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests, by using standard setting, certification and labelling of forest products, thus ensuring forests / plantations and forest products are certified and meet the highest environmental and social standards. FSC has 10 principles and associated criteria that form the basis for all FSC forest management standards and certification. The FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) system allows the tracking of FSC certified material from the forest / plantations to the consumer. The FSC label therefore provides a link between responsible production and responsible consumption and helps the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible buying decisions.
As part of our commitment to the economic transformation agenda of the state, we subscribe to the government’s empowerment policies by ensuring that there is increased levels of participation by previously disadvantaged South Africans in our forestry value chain. We are a Level-2 B-BBEE contributor as per the September 2016 audit.
