Celebrating Women In Forestry

Celebrating Women In Forestry

Every year, in August, our country marks Women’s Month. We also pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. A system meant to control women even further and reduce women to passive beings, at the mercy of men. On this National women’s day let us recommit to be the generation that ends sexism , patriarchy and violence against women in all its forms.

We celebrate this year’s Women Month under the theme: “Women in Forestry and Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights for an Equal Future”.  We pride ourselves in celebrating our women who defied the odds and took up space in male dominated forestry sector. At SAFCOL we take cognisance of gender equality, hence none of our employees are excluded, both our male and female foresters are equally treated.  We also take pride with the fact that we also have women in management roles contributing to the organizations value chain. We believe that with more women employed, we can reduce reduce the vulnerability of women to the gender based violence and enable them to become financially independent.
